Bearsted Patient Participation Group (PPG) Membership
In line with NHS recommendations, the Practice runs a Patient Participation Group (PPG).
This group of volunteers has been set up to discuss ways in which the surgery may enhance the needs of the patients and assist the surgery in making improvements where necessary. The Bearsted PPG currently comprises 8 members, as shown below.
The volunteers have a wide range of backgrounds including senior nursing and administrative roles within the health service, academia, sales, pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality assurance and a number are active in various charities.
The PPG has joined the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR PATIENT PARTICIPATION in 2024.

The PPG would like to thank Christine Shade for her contribution over many years.
If you are interested in finding out more about joining this group, please pick up a leaflet from reception.
Patients Urged to Join Group
Bearsted Medical Practice Patient Participation Group (PPG) is encouraging more of its 16,000 surgery patients to join free so that it represents all age groups.
The group aims to improve communication between staff and patients and encourage patients to take more responsibility for their own health. Anyone interested should email b.patientparticipation@nhs.net.
Members can join an email group and receive healthcare information and feedback their views to influence NHS services. You can find a form BELOW.
Virtual Patient Participation Group
If you would like to join the patient participation group but can’t commit to attending meetings, you can join the virtual group. This virtual group of people will be contacted with news of the surgery and will be asked to occasionally complete surveys and give feedback on the Practice.
If this is something that you would like to join, send an email to b.patientparticipation@nhs.net.
Annual General Meeting
AGMs have been held since September 2014 and the most recent was September 5th 2024 in the surgery. You are most welcome to attend the next AGM on September 11th 2025 in the surgery. AGM minutes can be found under PPG meeting minutes.
Committee Meetings
These are held every three months at the surgery. Minutes for our meetings may be found BELOW. We also meet every three months with the doctors and tea is provided by the surgery. Minutes for the Joint PPG meetings may also be found BELOW.
We would like to hear your views and suggestions on the Practice appointment system. Does it work for you?
Email us on b.patientparticipation@nhs.net and let us have your comments.
PPG Activities
Healthy Walking Group
Bearsted Healthy Walking group meets every Tuesday at Holy Cross Church at 1015 for 10.30 start. We offer a short walk for about 45 minutes and a longer one for about 75 to 90 minutes. Everyone is welcome although unfortunately we do not accept dogs on the walks. Just turn up or if you need further information ring Chris on 07738835302
Fundraising
The aim is to buy medical and other equipment for the surgery & support community needs. The funds are raised through periodic raffles and quiz nights. Our treasurer has just submitted an application to Tesco Community Grant scheme UK ( blue tokens system in store) to raise funds for a much needed replacement for the surgery Emergency Crash Trolley. More recently we were approached by Bearsted Parish Council who suggested we might also submit a request to them for funding. In the past funds have been raised for an ECG machine, chairs with arms for the waiting area of the surgery, & several oximeters. During the pandemic we also helped to provide countless face visors. Our quizzes have also, in the past, made donations to several local charities
Community Support
- There is now a PPG table back in the waiting area with a range of signposting leaflets including ones on Self Help, Social Prescribing , NHS Talking Therapies and also the Healthy Walking Group. In addition there is a Suggestions Box and the latest Newsletter. All the Self Help leaflets have been recently updated.
- There have also been Tea & Talk sessions at the local library.
